Student Tools

OLS Home

Upon logging in your student will arrive at the OLS Home, which provides easy access to lessons and tools.

Lesson Shortcuts provide your student with direct access to the next scheduled lesson for each course your student is enrolled in. The courses that are scheduled to be taught today have a sun in the “Today” column. Clicking on a course will bring him directing into the next lesson for that course.

The planning and progress tools for students help students keep track of their daily lessons and see their progress. These tools are targeted at students in grades 4 and up. Although younger students may use the plan, all of the lessons for Kindergarten through grade 3 were designed to be taught by an adult, and the adult’s user name and password are required to get to each lesson from the student area. In grades 4-5 some of the courses are adult-guided and require the adult’s user name and password. In grades 6-8 all of the online lessons are developed for the students to go through on their own.

The OLS tools available to students include:

  • Plan: Provides a schedule of lessons and a list of materials for a day or a week.

  • Lesson Lists: Provides all of the lessons and assessments for each course and the ability to select a novel for instruction (for those units that require it).

  • Progress: Provides a general overview of the student’s progress through the curriculum and alerts the student when there are outstanding assessments for lessons that have been completed.

  • Advance Preparation: Provides a list of lessons that requires extra preparation time as well as the  details necessary to prepare for these lessons.

The major differences between the adult and student areas include:

  • Assessments are password protected to restrict student access.

  • Students are not provided materials intended for the learning coach.

  • Certain courses for younger students are not designed for the student to go through independently. These courses are also password-protected because you will need to teach those lessons.

In addition, students also have access to:

  • My Account: The My Account link will take you to a pop-up window where you can review and change your user name and password.  In the future this area will also include account information such as materials tracking numbers and enrollment status

  • Announcements: Announcements will be displayed on the OLS Home page.  Announcements cover will include notification of system outages, customer care notification as well as announcements from the school administrators.

  • New Log-in: The New Log-in link will open a new K12 Online School Log-in screen.  Use this feature f you are teaching multiple children at one time and would like to have multiple windows of the Online School open and switch between students.
